Escola Monseny

This is one of a series of videos, made over six weeks in Barcelona, about different types of urban gardens. This school behind Parc Guell, one of Gaudí’s architectural attractions in the city, has incorporated a local garden into the school’s curriculum. The result is that all students in the school visit the garden four times each year to enjoy learning about nature firsthand.

Huerto Sagrada Familia (with subtitles)

This garden is two city blocks from the famous Sagrada Familia cathedral, the only public vegetable garden in that neighborhood of the city. The garden is operated by the municipal government of Barcelona and features retired people and prisoners working side by side.

This garden is located in the City Center of Barcelona, in La Ribera barrio, where, some years ago, buildings were taken down to create an open space in the neighborhood. A struggle ensued between the neighbors and the city government about how to use the space and the neighbors ultimately prevailed.
